  • Bahubali: The Beginning and the sequel Bahubali 2: The Conclusion together are the most expensive Indian movies ever made, with an approximate budget of nearly 450 crore.
  • Out of 100 years of Indian cinema Bahubali is the only movie to be featured in a BBC documentary. And The Rise of Sivagamiis one of the books of Bahubali fiction trilogy.
  • More than 800+ technicians, including the special effects team of Jurassic world, were hired for the making of the movie. Bahubali involved a lot of complex computer-generated imagery (CGI) and VFX shots which comprise almost 90% of the movie, that is about 4,500-5,000 VFX shots in 3 hours!
  • Prabhas worked with his local trainer to build his body. He visited the US and interacted with WWE wrestlers to understand their training regimen. He was so impressed with the infrastructure that he got the equipment, costing INR 1.5 crore, and built a personal gym imitating the set-up of the WWE wrestlers.

  • Prabhas would work out for 6 hours daily and start training early in the morning. His regime would start with about one-and-a-half hours of cardio, with focus on muscle building. In the evenings, to strengthen his body muscles, he would lift weights for about one-and-a-half hours.

The actor would eat a meal every two hours, and had a total of six meals every day, which did not include rice. The total calorie intake of Prabhas while shooting for Bahubali was between 2000 to 4000 calories a day!
  • Prabhas did not sign a single movie for the past three years so that he could focus on Bahubali and sink into the feel of it.
  • It is the only Indian movie to be made in 4D and many of the movie halls had to adjust their projectors just to show this movie on their screens.
    blog_header_4
  • This is the first Indian war movie which has stood in the category of Hollywood war movies such as Troyand 300.
  • This is the first time any regional movie is getting outstanding applause in the world market.

  • About 20,000 weapons were designed and used in the entire move and it had 50,000+ VFX shots spanning both the parts.
    blog_header_5
  • 110 acres of space was reserved at Ramoji Film City for the shooting of the war scene.
  • Bahubali: The Beginning is the biggest VFX film in Indian film history with around nearly 90% of the final output achieved through various visual effects techniques such as rotoscoping, chroma removal, wire removal, 2D and 3D tracking, matchmoving, color correction, live action shooting and CG (3D Computer Graphics) integration, matte painting, camera projections and compositing.
  • Around 2000 junior artists were in live action shooting.

  • Another record set; SS Rajamouli tweeted on March 17: “50 million cumulative views of our trailer, across all languages, on YT & FB. The most viewed Indian movie trailer in 24hours. #BB2Storm”.
  • The climax of Bahubali: The Conclusion was shot with a whopping budget of Rs. 30 crore, which was almost double the budget of the climax shot of its prequel Bahubali: The Beginning.
  • The waterfall scene in Bahubali – The Beginning that took almost one-third of the total shooting time of the entire film.
    blog_header_1
  • To get their bodies fit for the role they were playing Prabhas and Rana Daggubati were on a strict fitness regime, including diet and workout. They were even trained in martial arts by Vietnamese trainer Tuan. Both actors gained over 30 kilos to get into the skin of their characters.
  • Reportedly, director SS Rajamouli plans to make Bahubali 3.
  • It is said that Rajamouli took about more than 100 days to get the waterfall shot right. Being the most important scene in the movie, the team shot the sequence at three different waterfall locations to give it a grand effect.
  • A new language named ‘KILIKI’ was invented for the terrifying Kalakeya tribe in the movie. A completely new language was developed, with 750 words and 40 grammar rules!
    blog_header_2
  • It will be the first Indian movie to have its own museum. The museum being made will house all the weapons, armours and costumes that the actors sport in the film.
  • ‘Bahubali’ has surpassed ‘300’ in IMDB ratings and is ranked at 9.4 out of 10.
  • A leading ticket-booking website revealed that they sold one Bahubali ticket every 12 seconds, breaking records there too!

Hollywood celebrities who’ve starred in music videos!

blog_header_02

Hollywood’s famous actors have a storied history of popping up in music videos, from Eddie Murphy’s campy turn alongside Michael Jackson to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s devastated ‘Hero’ heroine. Here’s presenting to you, a list of our favourite music video cameos:

  1. Rupert Grint

The Harry Potter actor can be seen as an obsessed fan, lip-syncing to Ed Sheeran’s Lego House in the music video of the same. The song is a play on the similar appearances of the two celebrities, and was a big hit when it first released.

  1. Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood can easily be given the title of ‘Music Video King’ for the number of features he has made over the years in music videos. However, the first time he popped up in a video was during his childhood, and that too for a Paula Abdul song. He can be seen in the video of her single Forever Your Girl.

  1. Alicia Silverstone

Silverstone gained further prominence as a teen idol when she appeared in three music videos for the band Aerosmith during her peak as a teenage actor. Her most memorable feature would probably be the cinematic Cryin clip, in which the young actress leaps off a ledge with a bungee and flips off her man instead of plummeting to her death.

  1. Scarlett Johansson

Get a taste of Justin’s seduction strategy as Justin Timberlake woos Scarlett Johansson in a retro mansion with a vintage microphone, in the music video of his single What Goes Around… Comes Around.

  1. Eddie Murphy

Do you remember the time Eddie Murphy starred in Michael Jackson’s music video? (Yes, pun intended) Eddie Murphy played a sultan trying to “entertain his queen,” and the only one who can impress him is Michael Jackson himself.

Rangmanch’s Holi, a colourful triumph!

949

AISFM’s theatre club, ‘Rangmanch’, staged the Hindi adaptation of Mahesh Elkunchwar’s ‘Holi’, an iconic Marathi play at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Basheerbagh. Over 400 people turned up for the play and the student event was a huge success.

Harshad Dinkar Fad, representative for ‘Rangmanch’ – An AISFM Theatre Club and an AISFM MMBA III student in his own words jots down the journey of the stage play, from conception to finish, capturing its every essence in its truest form!

Witness this wonderful drama unfurl; pre, during and post, in front of you with his words!

2

When the clubs were revamped at AISFM last semester before the summer break, the newly elected representatives for Theatre Club, that was me and S. Venkat Narayan Murthy, had a clear vision of starting the new academic year with a grand theatrical performance. Our vision was supported by other clubs and most importantly Dean Bala sir, who suggested on staging a play that included various performing arts thus involving several clubs in the production. As exciting as it sounds, all the clubs agreed upon taking up this challenge. The theatre club was named ‘Rangmanch’ and we were set to paint the world of theatrics!

791

After a lot of brainstorming the club representatives decided to adapt a critically acclaimed film into a theatrical play. Unfortunately, the producers of this film denied us the permission citing the reason that they themselves were in the process of adapting it for stage. By the time this notification came we had already adapted the first act. With such little time left to prepare, Dean Bala sir came to our rescue and suggested we stage Mahesh Elkunchwar’s ‘Holi’. An iconic Marathi play from an iconic playwright, our responsibilities were multiplied to showcase a quality production. It was difficult to find the English or Hindi adaptation of this play and hence I asked my parents to send the original Marathi script from Pune. It took a good three days’ time to translate and adapt ‘Holi’ into a Hind-English play. The adapted script for ‘Holi’ was finally locked. It was time now to build a team.

15

From just me and Venkat at the beginning, ‘Team Holi’ eventually went on to be a 42 member troupe! ‘Rangmanch’ conducted its first auditions, where we found some actors with great potential. Most of these actors were completely new to stage acting and excited to explore the medium.

‘Holi’ is a play based on a hostel where everything was as paranoid as any other hostel till something beyond paranoid happened. A group of college students gather at a hostel room to express disappointment over not getting a holiday for Holi. What begins as a fun-filled hoopla amongst friends slowly turns into a revolt and then into something outrageous.

07

In all there are 19 characters in the play. The backstage crew, sound team, lights team, costumes and makeup team, finance and marketing team together took the number of cast and crew to a whopping 42 members! To manage these 42 people for three weeks and maintain co-ordination was the primary challenge we faced. At times, to maintain discipline we had to take harsh decisions like replacing the actors. A few contretemps here and there but talking about issues freely and finding solutions collectively was key to keep a healthy environment during the rehearsals. It was wonderful on the part of all the cast and crew members to do rehearsals for three long weeks after six to seven hours of a gruelling college schedule. On our side, Venkat and I tried to keep the atmosphere as fun-filled and enjoyable as possible. We all danced, did some funny exercises, meditated and laughed together. Everybody’s graph of performance in all departments only showed an upward mark.

892

Meanwhile, the Dance Club choreographed an energetic performance that would open the play. ‘Aarambh’, the Events Club was constantly co-ordinating between various departments while maintaining the finances. Rohit Tkar from the Music Club was going to be the lone ranger giving live score to the play. Photography Club covered the practice sessions and also took the responsibility to cover the entire event on the D-Day. The marketing team put up posters across the city and tickets were up for sale on BookMyShow.

AISFM funded the auditorium fees and equipment. Our academic co-ordinators Ms. Abhigna, Ms. Lyzandra and Dr. Vijaya Raghava were of utmost help throughout the process. We partnered with ‘Ksheersagar Sweets’ as our associate partners and Aayat Productions as our printing partners. Everything set; ‘Rangmanch’ was ready to go on the ‘manch’ of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium!

19th of August, 2016. Nervous excitement. Stakes were high. First ever theatrical performance by AISFM. First ever Rangmanch performance. First ever grand event in the presence of our Dean and AISFM Director Amala ma’am. It was a day marked with the most appropriate use of nervous energy by 42 individuals collectively. Without any frenzy, the crew and cast reached the venue with all the required properties and equipment. After the lights and sounds settings, we did a final rehearsal and the team was ready to deliver!

875

To our delight, more than 400-strong audience turned up for the show. Mrs. Amala Akkineni, our Chief Guest for the evening and our very own Dean Bala Raj sir arrived. It was encouraging to see some of our lecturers and officials from administration sitting in the first two rows. With such a massive turnout for the show and fire to give a memorable performance, Holi was performed. All the hard work and penance of three weeks was seen in every action and reaction on and off the stage. The play had three change of scenes where the complete stage was changed from one location to another. As the lights went off the crew had just 20 seconds to change these settings in complete dark and they, unbelievably, were on point every single time. Practice indeed makes a crew perfect! We were blessed with a wonderful audience who were responsive to everything that went on the stage. Listening to their applause after every scene was thrilling!

It was an emotional moment when the play got over and the entire cast and crew stood there to bow in front of the audience. Surpassing all hurdles and striving for the best at every moment, we finally delivered. And the audience loved it. What more does an artist want? To see the smiles on the audiences’ faces, to see them delighted, to see the effect your performance has caused in their eyes, is all the accolades and love won. Dean Bala sir and Amala ma’am presented us Directors with a shawl. It will remain as one of the highlights of my life and Venkat’s too. Truly humbled by this beautiful gesture! It was a shawl that not only recognized the efforts we put into bringing this entire act together from scratch but also a reminder of the responsibility we shouldered into making things only better and better from here. There’s always scope for improvement and we will only go forward from here. There is one thing I always told the cast and crew, which we again proved at the end of this performance, “Success is easy, all you need to do is hard work!”

As for ‘Rangmanch’, we are not a club anymore. We are family!

Don’t miss the action! See more photos here: http://bit.ly/2bLgzia

Does 2016 feel like the 90’s? We investigate!

collage

2016 is only halfway done and already seems so eventful! Some may agree, other may not; one thing that everybody can agree on however, is the fact that 2016 is the year of comebacks. #Throwback has been given a whole new meaning these past six months. With the return of trends in not only fashion, but also film, television, politics and lifestyle, 2016 is being called the new and improved late 90’s & early 2000’s. Here’s why:

Film

Tarzan
An infant, adopted by apes eventually becomes the king of the jungle; everybody is familiar with this story. It is of course, the legend of Tarzan. Back in 1999, Disney came out with the animated version of the story by Edgar Rice, which would lead to numerous renditions of the story in film, TV and gaming, following its popularity among children.

Fast forward 17 years, those very children have made sure that Tarzan is still running in theatres. Now don’t get us wrong, it might not be the same film, but the 2016 take on the legendary story won the hearts of critics and audiences alike.

Television

friends

‘I’ll be there for you’ has become synonymous with the hit TV series that aired from 1994 to 2004. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. gained popularity in the mid 90’s and it seems as though this popularity is in no mood to go away from the show. Though it has been over 12 years since the last episode aired, the show is becoming more and more popular, even with the youngsters, who were infants when the show was being aired!

In February 2016, the cast of FRIENDS (barring Matthew Perry) had a small reunion of sorts during the show organized as a tribute to director James Burrows, where they shared a few memories from their time together on set.

Lifestyle

fashion

When somebody says ‘return of trends’, one’s mind automatically goes to fashion. There have been a lot of fashion trends that are making a comeback this year. During the 90’s we would see young girls with butterfly clips and scrunchies in their hair, chokers around their necks, trying to copy the plaid ensembles donned by Cher and Dion in Clueless.

It seems like not just these, but many other fashion trends are making a comeback since the beginning of the year. Soon, we shall witness boys and girls looking like they’ve stepped out of a scene from The Breakfast Club, with flared jeans, dungarees, crimped hair, bandana patters and chokers taking over the fashion world by storm.

Gaming

pokemon

Back in 2000, 5 pm meant only one thing for every school going child – Pokémon! The year after that saw a flood of Pokémon merchandize hitting the shelves of stores worldwide. What stood out the most was probably the game played with the Pokémon trading cards. They were all the rage in 2001!

15 years after a Pokémon game being released, you would think the Pokéfever would have reduced if not completely cured. Here’s where we all were wrong. 2016 gave us one of the most trending things ever – Pokémon Go! ; a location-based augmented reality (AR) game supported by both Android and IOS and one that allowed its players to catch Pokémon around the world. Everybody’s childhood dream of being the best, the very best Pokémon trainer came true, thanks to Niantic’s AR game!

Music

music

Every time you think of 90’s music you automatically think Blink 182. The American rock band formed in Poway, California in 1992, currently consists of bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker, and guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba. In 2001, their hit song, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (sometimes referred to simply as ‘Take Off’) topped the US, UK and Canadian charts!

It seems like even after 15 years, the rock band hasn’t lost its touch. Their new album, California has managed to top every chart, just like their 2001 studio album.

Politics

the clintons

When we say politics, we are referring only to the elections going on out West! The US elections have always been the talk of the town all over the world; this year is no different. Why are we saying this year feels like 2001? Well, back in 2001, there was a Clinton running for President, just like how this year there is one. Back in 2001, Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001, and it seems like his wife, Hilary Clinton is not very behind when it comes to the political front. She is the nominee of the Democratic Party for President of the United States in the 2016 election; giving us yet again, a déjà vu feeling!

Taking the red carpet by storm: Grammys 2016!

featured_Blogpost

When it comes to the Grammy’s, it’s go big or go home! We have always got the most glamorous and most outrageous outfits from these award shows year after year. With the New York Fashion Week happening the same time as the awards, our celebrities showed that they could easily be walking down the runway instead of the red carpet.  Some stars stayed true to their signature styles (Taylor Swift with her crop top phase still in full swing) while others very pleasantly surprised us with something totally hatke (We are looking at you, Adele). Here are 10 celebrity outfits that we absolutely adored:

  1. Selena Gomez:

selena

The ‘Good For You’ singer looked ravishing in this Calvin Klein design. The cut-out, sequin dress struck the right tone at the 58th Grammy Awards. ET (Entertainment Tonight) correspondent Joe Zee says. “We saw a lot of black on the red carpet that was actually very conservative and very quiet and subdued, and then you saw bright colors and over-the-top, and I have to say, some of my favorites were more sort of elegant looks. I love Selena Gomez in her Calvin Klein.”

  1. Sam Hunt:

sam-hunt

Everybody knows how difficult it is for a man to carry off an all pink ensemble, but Sam Hunt did it, and how! The singer-songwriter took a big risk with this pale-pink colour, but it absolutely paid off. The Dolce & Gabbana suit, definitely was one of the most interesting red carpet looks seen on a male celebrity in a while.

  1. Taylor Swift:

taylor-swift

Taylor Swift’s bright outfit was just like her – fun, bright and full of life. The fact that she wore the two contrasting colours with such ease was commendable. The orange crop top with the fuchsia skirt by Atelier Versace was certainly on trend. It seemed like she took Emma Stone’s 2014 Met Gala look to a whole new level!

  1. Jack Antonoff:

jack

Jack’s grey blazer was a refreshing break from the usual sea of navy and black tuxes seen at award ceremonies. He really hit a high note when he added a crisp white shirt and patent dress shoes to his outfit.

  1. Ellie Goulding:

ellie

Ellie’s dress might seem simple when seen from front, but just wait until she turns around. The Stella McCartney blush-coloured V-neck gown was what we call ‘Hollywood Elegance’ from the front but rock ‘n’ roll from the back – thanks to the diamond drape.

  1. Sam Smith:

A three-piece suit is like the equivalent of an LBD. The country singer looked amazing in his fitted blue Thom Sweeney suit. The detailing on his pocket square was what we loved most about his suit. This look can never go out of style, especially when worn like this.

  1. Adele:

Adele
Adele ranks among the best dressed of the 58th Grammy Awards red carpet, thanks to her custom Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress. It featured an all-over embroidery that combined paillettes, crystals and pearls for just the right level of dialled-back glamour, giving the singer a look that is totally different from what we have seen from her until now.

  1. Mark Ronson:

mark
Mark is famous for his uber-cool, laidback look. His Grammy look proved how one can easily use, combine one’s own style with the glamour of an awards ceremony. The ‘Uptown Funk’ creator looked cool in this pinstriped navy blazer and all-black ensemble.

  1. Carrie Underwood:

carrie

Carrie Underwood was one of the first to hit the Grammy Awards red carpet in her stunning Nicolas Jebran gown. The fact that she kept her accessories minimal is what made her outfit stand apart. She showed how sometimes, less can be more.

Special Mention:

Lady GaGa:

We all know that Gaga was all set to perform hit songs of David Bowie as a tribute to him, but little did we know that she would be taking this tribute to the red carpet as well! She took the look so far as to even have a tattoo of the late singer on her midsection. The jacket-dress worn by her, was glittery and a total head turner.

Rewind: Best of 2015!

The year 2015 finally came to an end a couple of days ago, and like each year, we look back to see what gems the year had to offer. Without any further ado, AISFM presents ‘Best of 2015’. Our list includes the most downloaded apps, music, films, TV shows, and much more. There are a few surprises on it, but for the most part it’s pretty straightforward and you’re probably already a fan of most of the mentioned items.

Most Downloaded Song
(Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ featuring Bruno Mars)uptown funk
The track, which features Bruno Mars, notched up a combined sales and streaming total of 1.76 million to finish at the top of the end of year chart. The song’s total combined sales since its release in November 2014 stand at 2.25 million! This was followed by Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’, and Adele’s ‘Hello’ which, to be fair, came out a lot later in the year than the aforementioned tune, which came in at #6.

Most Downloaded TV Show
(Game of Thrones)
got
On the small screen ‘Game of Thrones’ (Season 5) was the #1 download. Here’s a nerdy statistic for you ‘Game of Thrones’ fans: There are more illegal downloads of the show every week than there are people in King’s Landing. That’s according to piracy monitoring service Irdeto, which monitored illegal TV downloads for two months earlier this year, and found GoT to be increasingly popular. Around 116,000 copies of the show were downloaded each day on an average. (King’s Landing, according to the George R.R. Martin books, has a mere 500,000 souls.)

Most Downloaded Movie
(Interstellar)

According to figures from Excipio, which tracks BitTorrent downloads, the Matthew McConaughey flick got a whopping 46.7 million downloads from the start of this year to December 25. Compared with ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, which was number one on the same list in 2014, with 30 million downloads, 56% more copies of the film were downloaded. This is so out of this world!

Most Downloaded App
(Trivia Crack)

When it comes to free iPhone apps, social media definitely ruled. If you had a hunch that Instagram and Snapchat were in the top 10, you’re right. They were #5 and #4 respectively. The #1 spot in this category went to Trivia Crack. When talking about paid iPhone apps, the games ruled. Heads Up!, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and Trivia Crack were the top three downloads.

Most Visited Website
(Google)
google
Alexa ranks websites based on a combined measure of page views and unique site users. Alexa creates a list of “top websites” based on this data, time-averaged over three-month periods. Only the site’s highest-level domain is recorded, aggregating any sub-domains. According to Alexa Internet, google.com is the most visited website of 2015.

Most Used Instagram Hashtag
(Love)
love
Instagram is slowly but surely becoming the new Facebook. With hash-tagging becoming the most used thing with every passing day on instagram, we just could not complete this list without including the most used hashtag of the previous year. According to Webstagram, in 2015 the hashtag used the most was #love. This was followed by #instagood, #me and finally #tbt.
