  1. Janice in Friends

Maggie Wheeler played Janice on the ever-so-popular sitcom Friends and is best known for her role in it, even though she was a recurring character on Everybody Loves Raymond as Linda and Anita Warrell on the sitcom Ellen.

Who can forget her oh-so-annoying nasal tone on the show? But did you know that she came up with that unforgettable voice! When she went for the audition she saw the slides for that character and it said, ‘fast-talking New Yorker’. She grew up there and just interpreted that character the way she imagined she would be and did her distinct ‘Janice’ voice in her audition. And the rest as they say, is history! The producers loved it, as did the fans. Even now people stop her and ask her to say, ‘You love me, Chandler Bing. You just don’t know you love me.’

Maggie was last seen on television in 2014 in Hot in Cleveland and in 2015 in the movie The 3 Tails: A Mermaid Adventure. ‘Oh my Gawwwdddd!!!!!’

  1. Gunther in Friends

The oh-so-silent but forever-there-in-the-frame, throwing in a punch line now and then (albeit in his head!) silent ardent admirer of Rachel in Friends was Gunther played by James Tyler. Gunther was a coffee shop worker at Central Perk who had unrequited love for Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston. This characterization led to a ten-year career with appearances in 148 of Friends’ 236 episodes and is the show’s most-frequently-appearing guest star.

In honour of Friends’ 15th anniversary in 2009, Tyler opened a Central Perk replica in Carnaby Street, London, from September to October. He appeared in the unaired pilot satire sitcom Nobody’s Watching, playing himself as a present from the studio executives on the set of Central Perk. And later in honour of Friends’ 20th anniversary in 2014, he made appearances at a Central Perk replica in SoHo.

  1. Kramer in Seinfield

Cosmo Kramer, usually referred to as simply ‘Kramer’ on Seinfeld was played by Michael Richards. He was the annoying yet endearing friend and neighbour of main character Jerry and was friends with George and Elaine. Of the series’ four central characters, only Kramer had no visible means of support.

His upright hairstyle and vintage wardrobe, whose combination led Elaine to name him ‘hipsterdoofus’; his taste in fresh fruit; love of occasional smoking and bursts through Jerry’s apartment door were trademarks of his that were hard to miss.

Michael is also a writer, television producer and comedian and was last seen on television in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee in 2012 and 2014 and in movies Kirstie and Walk The Light in 2013.

  1. Winnie from The Wonder Years

Danica Mae McKellar, better known for her on-screen persona Winnie, is an American actress, author, education advocate and mathematician, yes, you read that right, mathematician! She played Kevin Arnold’s on-off girlfriend Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years.

In real life though, she authored four non-fiction books on the field she excels in, Math! These books encourage middle-school and high-school girls to have confidence and succeed in mathematics. Not just that, she received the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (JPBM) Communications Award in January 2014.

A classic example of beauty with brains, she studied at UCLA and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with the highest honours in 1998. And it gets better too. As an undergraduate, she co-authored a scientific paper entitled ‘Percolation and Gibbs states multiplicity for ferromagnetic Ashkin–Teller models’ and their results are termed the ‘Chayes–McKellar–Winn theorem’.

Talking about the role she said that she auditioned like everyone else. They had read lots of girls but hadn’t found their ‘Winnie’ yet, until her. She now keeps herself busy with Math but does take out time now and then; and was seen in the film Where Hope Grows in 2014 and on television in 2015 in Crown for Christmas and in 2016 in Killer Frost.

  1. Kevin from The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years is a comedy-drama which centers on Kevin Arnold who is an average normal boy. But when they were casting for it, the search for the main lead did not take long. The directors, Marlens and Black, went to five casting directors and all five of them recommended Fred Savage, who at the time was famous for his other roles as the grandson in The Princess Bride and as Charlie/Marshall in Vice Versa.  The duo saw the rough cut of Vice Versa and saw a marvellous actor with a natural quality, no quality at all except being a kid. They took this approach when casting the other kids for the show, looking for natural ability rather than professionalism.

Fred is also a director and producer and in 2007, he made his feature film directing debut with the film Daddy Day Camp. He was seen in 2015 – 2016 in The Grinder as the lead in the television series.
